For Frieze Masters, Viewing Room, we will be presenting a selection of works by Rodin, Brancusi, Brassaï, Henry Moore, and Robert Mapplethorpe. This online exhibition will include photographs that depict sculpture and art, all of which relate to antiquity.

Brassaï’s depictions of graffiti evoke walls in Pompeii. Mapplethorpe’s fascination with the perfect body as rendered in bronze and marble by Roman and Greek sculptors. And the clear link between the work of Rodin and antiquity, which is also evidenced in Brancusi’s early work, and perhaps with hislifelong use of marble.

We live in an age in which we look at images of art on our phones and computers far more than we see art in museums and galleries, this has never been more true. Central to this presentation are photographic depictions of art that are artworks in themselves. Photography will be paired with sculpture by Rodin and antiquities that inspired all of the artists that are included in this exhibition. Object / Photo explores the idea of how art is reproduced, the relationship between the photograph as an artwork and the photograph as a depiction of art, as well as the relationship these artists had with antiquity.

From October 9 - October 16.
